The term “hosting” does not describe one service, but several services that provide various functions to a domain name. Having a site and e-mails, as an illustration, are two independent services although in the general case they come together, so most people see them as one single service. The truth is, each and every domain has a couple of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that manages each specific service - the first one is a numeric IP address, that defines where the site for the domain is loaded from, while the latter is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that manages the emails for the domain name. As an illustration, an A record is 123.123.123.123 and an MX record can be mx1.domain.com. Every time you open a website or send an email, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a Internet domain has and the traffic/message is first directed to that company. When you have custom records on their end, the browser request or the e-mail will be directed to the correct server. The idea behind employing separate records is that the two services work with different web protocols and you may have your website hosted by one company and the emails by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Web Hosting

If you have a shared web hosting account with our company and you wish to switch either your website or your e-mails to a different company, it will take you literally just two clicks to do this. Our Hepsia CP offers an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you will be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you decide to use a different email provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the default two, it will not take more than a few mouse clicks either to add them. You can even set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a particular MX record is going to have. The propagation of any record that you modify or set up isn't going to take more than a few hours and if required, you'll also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which shows how long a record will remain active after it is modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Accessing and changing the A or MX records for each of your domain addresses or subdomains is very easy if you get a semi-dedicated server plan from our company. The accounts are maintained via our in-house built Hepsia CP, which includes a section committed to the DNS records of your domain names. The latter is going to be listed alphabetically and you could click on any of them to see both the A and the MX records. Editing any record is as easy as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even if you have never dealt with such matters before, you will not experience any problems if you wish to direct your website or e-mails to an alternative provider while keeping the second service with our company. If necessary, you could also set up additional MX records and set a certain priority based on the instructions of the new provider.
